"Raw, pure and full of passion"

Joost Spijkers (SPIJKERS) has a deep-rooted passion for music, song and dance. The winner of the Poelifinario 2018 in the Kleinkunst category brings great (life) songs and, according to the jury, touches the heart. "A combination of lyrics by Peer Wittenbols, fiery temperament and fantastic music; a rare mixture of jazz, Balkan, chanson, pop, rock and fado in cabaret land."

In the spring of 2020, the singer, who is also part of the Ashton Brothers, will perform a small intimate chamber concert under the name Au Plat Pays.
In the spring of 2021 he will come up with a new theater program: Hotel Spijkers.

'... the sublime cocktail of joy, sorrow and longing ...' wrote the jury of the Poelifinario about the previous program by Joost Spijkers. That promises something for this brand new musical theater adventure. Let yourself be carried away by the cheerful and melancholic energy of Joost and be very welcome in his “HOTEL SPIJKERS”.

Drawing on his own life and underpinned by old traditions, Joost takes you like a modern shaman through the landscape of our own emotions.

"HOTEL SPIJKERS" is the new full-length music theater performance by Joost Spijkers and his band. A one-man opera about hunger for life: the desire to be together and how keeping memories alive brings freedom. Sung, played, danced and told by Joost Spijkers. New lyrics written especially for SPIJKERS by playwright Peer Wittenbols. The music consists of adaptations of age-old traditionals and newly written compositions by Stanislav Mitrović, Arend Niks and Joost himself.

In HOTEL SPIJKERS a man enters the lobby of the hotel. He's obviously tipsy. His clothes are battered and he has scratches and bruises. His wedding suit hangs over his arm: dress suit with corsage in the lapel. He pushes the hotel bell on the desk and waits for the night porter to report. He watches the other hotel guests; each of them has its own wonderful, staggering or moving life story.
